Community and Biodiversity in the Osa Peninsula

The objective of this program is providing the student with the opportunity to live a unique experience involving social and environmental activities. The student will have the opportunity to share with members of nearby communities that will allow them to learn about the Biodiversity of the Osa Peninsula, as well as the social reality of the region.


10 Days Program
Program Price $ 1300.00




The variety of activities provided in this program, will bring the student a broader perspective of the daily life of the local population. The student will have the opportunity to learn about the kind of actions that locals undertake and the ways in which they have learned to take care of the natural resources of their surroundings. At the same time, the student will learn and experience the sustainable practices that allow these communities to have a sustainable development.

This program includes visits to Rural Tourism and Community Rural Tourism projects, providing the student with the opportunity to have a close contact with small families’ community tourism projects. Additionally to the daily trips the student will receive a series of lectures to reinforce the general knowledge involving Ecology, Biodiversity and socio – environmental tourism.





Recommended Gear

  • Lightweight, comfortable hiking or walking shoes (waterproof is preferable).
  • Water shoes (such as Tevas, Crocs or Keens)
  • Sports socks that go up to your knees (this is to make sure you don’t get a rash when wearing our rubber boots on the rainforest hikes).
  • Sunscreen (30 factor at least) and Insect repellent
  • Flashlight, head lamp is very useful in the hikes. When possible, please pack only Panasonic batteries, as these are the only brand of batteries that can be recycled in Costa Rica.
  • Light raincoat when visiting us during the rainier months.
  • Swim suit
  • Personal medicines
  • Diary or small notebook
  • Plastic bags for your clothes to bring in the rain forest. You can take small ziplock´s also for camera´s and documents.
  • Bottle of water (1 or 2 Nalgene bottles).
  • A copy of your passport.

Day 1

Arrival to San Jose, Costa Rica.
Transfer to hotel (lunch or dinner according to flight schedule).

Day 2

Introduction to Neotropica Foundation

Introduction to Neotropica Foundation and general information about the trip.
10:30 am
Transfer to Center of Studies and Community Empowerment Alvaro Wille Trejos (CEEC-AWT). (Lunch box included)
05:30 pm
Arrival to the Center, time to get accommodated and refreshed from the trip.
06:30 pm
Introduction to the Program “Community and Biodiversity in Osa Peninsula” and time to meet the environmental educator. Precautions at the Tropical rainforest.

Ngöbe Indigenous Reserve

Corcovado National Park

Chocuaco Lagoon

Activities at Chocuaco Lagoon: Hike to the Look out point, Visit to Medicinal plants garden and canoe our to the Lagoon (snacks are included).

Visit to ASPOPEZ office and Activities “Green Blue Golfo Dulce – Ecological Tour”. Traditional Fishing workshop with the local Fishermen. (Fruits and water bottles are included).
